Routine Care for Horses
When owning a horse or any animal there is routine care and preventive measures that need to be done to ensure that animal remains healthy and happy.
For horses, these measures can be broken down in to daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly tasks. By keeping records of each task and making a schedule it can help you remember to do them and to know what was done in the past.
Daily care needed is: providing food, water, and hay, blankets (when cold), shelter (to protect from weather), exercise, a visual check for injury, a visual check for illness, the hooves of the horse by picking out feet and checking shoes, mucking out stalls.
Weekly care needed is: checking supplies and if you need to order more, keeping fields clean, checking fences and gates, scrub water troughs (if needed) and wash feed/water buckets of dirt and let over food.
Monthly care needed is; paid bill (for board or for the facility)
About six to eight week care is : checking up on the hooves/shoes of the horse to see if they need trimmed or changed
About every two to three months: deworming depending on the time of the year with correct dewormer
Once a year care needed is: Vaccines (also can be every six months), Teeth checkup (also can be every six months if needed)
