Braiding the Mane
There are a couple types of braids for the mane:
-Hunter Braids : this is about twenty to thirty braids down the mane, flat braids that are fastened along the neck with yarn, forelock is braided too, used on hunters, hunter ponies, and jumpers. - Button Braids or English Plaits - fewer and thicker than hunter braids, these are doubled over and sewn on by yarn, forelock it normally braided, and these braid is used in eventers, jumpers, and dressage horses. - Knob Braids - similar to hunter braids but pushed up in a knob on top of the neck either with rubber bands or yarn, forelock can be braided or unbraided, used on jumpers, eventers, and dressage horses -French Braid or Running Braid - the mane is braided in to a single braid to run along the crest or drop a couple inches down, it starts at the bridle path to the end of the mane, forelock is usually unbraided, mostly used on horses with long manes |

Braiding the Tail
Hunter's Tail- French braided at the top with taking little bits of hair braided in, end of the braid wrapped around and tucked in or pin wheeled, used for jumpers and eventers, meant to keep tail clean and out of the way.
Polo Tail - starts out as a hunter's tail but the whole tail gets braids and tried up, this is used on polo horses to help nothing get stuck in the tail of the horse Braiding Tail - when using a fake tail normally the tail under is braid and tied up to hide the tail underneath |
